Emma and Craig

The most fantastic vintage inspired wedding of Emma and Craig from last summer.

With only a short period of time before her wedding day, Emma contacted me with a request for two large suspended floral arrangements to be hung in the most amazing barn conversion where she was to marry Craig.

The venue was to be the stunnning Hazel Gap Barn, a relatively new wedding venue on the outskirts of Sherwood Forest.

As you can see from these fabulous images, by the extremely talented  Becky Ryan Photography, Emma and Craig had an amazing vintage inspired day.

Emma was a real pleasure to work with, and although we didn’t get to meet each other until the day before the wedding, (everything was discussed over the phone and via email) she felt confident enough to allow me a free hand in creating her dream.

In her own words she ”was unsure of what exactly she wanted, other than lots of foliage and a few flowers and could you just create something natural and rustic?’

Floral designers, just love to hear those words, and so with a budget set, I was able to create two of the largest suspended arrangements that I have made to date.

They did look amazing and added a real WOW to the barn.

Here are a fabulous couple ‘oozing’  style. I think you’ll agree that Emma really rocks the vintage look and looks stunning…and….Craig sure wears a kilt well!

What a day, filled with so much fun, vintage cars, smoke bombs, sparklers and a cailidh,

Roz and Jamie

Wow! I’ve been dying to share these fabulous images with you.

Jo at soar photo has really captured the fun loving, happy, spirit of this great couple.

Roz and Jamie were married at The Nottingham Council House back in May. Roz looked amazing in her 1950’s inspired dress, (I’m loving the blue corset)! Jamie looked very dapper in a navy blue suit and floral cravat. They look as if they’ve just stepped out of an old movie! Beautiful.

Bright Orange Gerbera,  paired with beautiful red roses made for an eye catching bridal bouquet.

After the ceremony and a photo call in the Arboretum, the happy couple and their guests boarded a big red ‘vintage’ bus to travel to The Brit club for a ‘rave of a celebration!!

Wedding Photography

I have come across many talented photographer’s over the years, who have kindly let me share their amazing images with you.

Rob Sail is but one of them, talented, and a highly recommended, Nottinghamshire based wedding photographer. Rob photographed Lucy and Rob’s wedding at The Carriage Hall back in October. Today, he has kindly sent over some ‘top tips’ to  share with you, on questions  to consider when choosing your photographer, for the big day.

Thank you Rob.

5 top tips for getting the most out of your wedding photography

Decide on the approach you want your photographer to have.

Wedding photography has changed dramatically in the last decade, gone are the days of only just photographing the ceremony and endless family group shots after at the church. Most wedding photographers now photograph weddings through a mixture of approaches from posed photographs to candid natural shots.

Some wedding photographers now only shoot unposed photographs throughout at booking a wedding photographer, it is worth asking them how many of the photographs on the day are posed.

Neither approach is better or worse than the other, but it is always a good idea to ask your photographer which approach they use, so you know what to expect on the day.

Running late on the day!

Over the years, quite a few of the weddings I have photographed have run late. It happens, cars break down, guests get lost, it is just one of those things. If the ceremony runs late, it can eat into the time you had planned for the family photos and the drinks reception. If that happens it may be worth talking to your wedding photographer and venue co-ordinator seeing if it is possible to push back the time of your wedding breakfast. Allowing you to still get all the photographs you want and still have time to relax and enjoy your drinks reception with your friends and family.

The dreaded family group photos

Often when I meet couples, they tell me the story of how their friends wedding photographer was terrible, they bossed all the guests around and they spent ages doing all the family photographs. With this in mind I would recommend talking to your photographer about how they shoot and manage the family photos. If you want over 40 family photographs, it’s going to take a bit of time. Where as if you only want 6 -12 family formals these can normally be done in 15 to 20 minutes depending on the location and lighting. I would also recommend calling upon your ushers or grooms men to help round up all the family members for the photos, which can help speed up the process dramatically.

Weather & lighting considerations

Sadly with the UK weather being what it is, it can still rain in July & August. You just never really know what you are going to get. I would recommend making back up plans in case the worst should happen on your day if it does rain heavily.

It may also be worth speaking to your photographer about when the sunset is on your wedding day. Could be a great idea to grabbing a few quick photographs with them in the ‘magic hour’, if you want that particular style of photograph.

Doing your own prints and albums

Many wedding photographers now provide the couple high resolutions copies of all the final wedding photos on a USB or digital download. Which can be great for the couple, as they are free to make as many prints as they want. However many couples do not get their photos printed from a professional lab, so don’t always look as great as they could, or quite as the photographer intended. I would recommend having a chat with your photographer and seeing if they can recommend any labs or, can they do the prints for you.
